An Adman - Poacher Turned Gamekeeper? - Not In A Million Years!

Monday, November 26th, 2007

By Paul Ashby I never cease to be amazed at Advertising People and their chutzpah! Recently Interpublic CEO, Michael Roth, speaking at a AAAA Management Conference had something completely nonsensical to say about the current hot topic of accountability. Among other things he praised Adlands currently fashionable mantra of ‘Accountability’. Which made me burst out laughing. Accountability and Advertising? Ain’t no such beastnever has beennever will be! Among other things, he said “Learning which types of marketing work and why, has become more complicated in an era of proliferating media channels and rapid changes in consumer behaviour”. Notice anything strange about that statement? Well, consider this, there is no doubt that clutter is one of the prime reasons (here I hasten to say that there are many more), why there is an inability to be accountable. And who benefits from clutter?, why the advertising agencies themselves, so they are never going to address that little problem. But there you go again, the Poacher has struck yet again, setting up the excuses they will be using to justify the total lack of accountability in Adland! The only accountability we are aware of is “50% of my advertising is wasted but I don’t know which 50%”. Except that we figure that it is more like 90% wasted! But heywould you really like to have a laugh? He had the great chutzpha to go on to say “Because without it, the Clients will be left in the dark, or someone else is going to do it. The ultimate test of a service model, which is what agencies are, is how do you prove your value in the marketplace?” The fact of the matter is, is that Clients have been left in the dark ever since advertising started, it is only now that Agencies, seeing the future, and seeing that the future does not include them are now starting to feel very afraid. Somebody else has done it before, someone has produced a model of Advertising Marketing Communication that is totally accountable, more effective, more accountable than anything available to-day, (Hey hold on Paul, Advertising has never been accountable). However the Advertising Agencies did their utmost to condemn the concept and never ever supported the idea, and yet here is the Poacher now preaching the fact that they are a service industryplease don’t make me laugh again! One thing Poacher is good at is spending Clients money, but hey, don’t get carried away, spending it not on the Client. Perhaps this is what he regards as servicing his Clients!John Wannamaker the 19th century haberdasher who uttered that famous “I know half of my advertising budget is wasted” quote would see the cream of global creativity drowning the brain cells in booze before heading back to $500 a- night hotel rooms. This happens annually at Cannes, however thanks to the client influx, hed also see new hights of relationship building as agencies return some of their bounty to clients. It drives home the ROI analysis how much extra cash moves through this industry. And how out of touch advertising creatives can be with the folks who ultimately pay the bills. A shockingly refreshing exception is Yasmin Ahmad, executive creative director of Publicis Groupes Leo Burnett Co., Malaysia. Last time, she told a room of Procter & Gamble Co. executives how she once walked out of a meeting about a campaign to make shampoo sachets appear to be a better value by putting less shampoo in them. Now here’s a little shard of accountability:The advertising industry is crushing itself under the weight of its own messaging, squeezing the effectiveness out of its product as consumers get more and more inured to the commercialisation of their culture and surroundings. “At the end of the day, the ability of the average consumer to even remember advertising 24 hours later is at the lowest level in the history of our business,” said Bob Barocci, president-CEO of the Advertising Research Foundation. Now that’s accountability! Paul Ashby pioneered interactive communication to the advertising and marketing communities some twenty-five years ago. The communication issues he addresses have been neglected during the explosive grown of advertising in the 60s, 70s and 80s, these are Cognitive Dissonance, Selective Retention and Selective Exposure. Would you like to discover the incredible results to be attained by using interactive communication? Well these are revealed for FREE at http://effectiveaccountablecommunication.blogspot.com or contact Paul directly on paul.ashby@yahoo.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Paul_Ashby http://EzineArticles.com/?An-Adman—Poacher-Turned-Gamekeeper?—Not-In-A-Million-Years!&id=541998 xanax without prescription from mexico buy xanax usa pharmacy overnight delivery money order xanax buy-xanax-online-without-prescription

The Mother of the Bride’s Dress and Duties

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Audrey Cheong DRESS Discussing with the bride on which mother of the bride dress colors are appropriate for the wedding. Mother of the bride can choose her color or colors then. She can choose a mother of the bride dress by going to the department stores or bridal shops that carry mother of the bride dresses and gowns or she can even go with a nice, embellished suit. The mother of the bride can also let her “fingers do the shopping”. There are tons of great ideas for a mother of the bride dress online. Do a search for “mother of the bride gowns” or “mother of the bride dresses”. Websites usually offer the latest designs for reasonable prices. Mother of the bride will choose a color that complements the wedding color/colors. If this a difficult thing to do, the basic colors of silver, black, navy, beige, or champagne are acceptable colors to wear. Ivory is acceptable too–it is no longer taboo at weddings (or even black–”black and white” weddings!), if the bride agrees to it. Mother of the bride can then decide on the length of the dress. Will she be happier with a long, floor-length gown, or will she look better in a more semi-formal, tea-length or even knee-length style? Confer with the mother of the groom on all mother of the bride dress or gown choices. They will both want to coordinate their choice of outfits. Shop for a dress at LEAST two to four months in advance of the wedding date. This will allow ample time for dress exchanges, alterations, and the purchase of shoes and accessories. This will limit some of the stress when the mother of the bride plans early. DUTIES The mother of the bride will assist the bride with the selection of her wedding dress and accessories. Also, choosing of the bridesmaids, maid of honor and the color theme of the wedding, wedding song, etc. The mother of the bride helps the bride and the groom in gathering the names of wedding guests and narrowing down the guest list. The mother of the bride aids in selecting the wedding invitations and the writing out the invitation copy. The mother of the bride is the assistant or is solely responsible for the other wedding details like photography/videography, wedding cake, bridal accessories, bridal shower arrangements, wedding bouquet and flowers, food catering, wedding favors, pastor/minister/church, banquet room, reception, lodging for out-of-town guests, etc. The mother of the bride leaves the wedding ceremony area after the bride and groom and before the guests. The mother of the bride greet guests as they file into the reception room, or at signing of the wedding register. The mother of the bride dances with the father of the bride or if unavailable, the escort, and then with the groom during the first formal dance. The mother of the bride ensures that all the guests are happy and having a great time and most importantly, that she, the bride, and groom, are having fun as well despite all the stress and the “hoopla”. MBA Schools Essential for Business Professionals

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Michael Bustamante Aspiring business professionals will be wise to obtain a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from a top MBA school. A Master Degree is considered very desirable for those interested in acquiring positions in public service or business management. MBA schools specialize in exposing students to all aspects of business with the aim of developing skills necessary for effective management in areas of human resources, accounting, finance, insurance, information systems, administration, project management, and more. To gain admission to a good Master Degree Program, it is important to score well on the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test). The prime candidate for admission to an MBA program has also written a strong essay on the application, as well as considerable work experience, an undergraduate degree with a high GPA (grade point average), good references, and has impressed the admissions team during the personal interview phase. The candidate’s character, which is determined by active participation in extracurricular activities and community service, is also very often important to an admissions committee. MBA schools (also known as Business Schools) emphasize the building of practical skills and strong concepts of business structures, functions, and operations. Students will find that they are strongly encouraged to specialize in one or two areas of business, such as management and information systems or management and accounting. However, general degree programs in management are also common. Once admitted, students in MBA schools can anticipate gaining practical management skills while sharpening their decision-making, improving their creativity, and developing effective business ethics for leadership in business environments. Students will focus on developing proficiencies in management, assessment, and applications of theories and principles that affect successful businesses. Guide to a Growing Trend: The “Green” or Ecological Wedding

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By Blake Kritzberg Does it seem like the phrases “ecology” and “wedding” could hardly have less in common? With the average wedding costing well over 15 thousand today, one would think so. And yet, the “green” or ecologically-friendly wedding is gaining momentum across the nation. Lower impact and a smaller environmental footprint doesn’t mean austere. The green wedding can be hauntingly romantic, with its outdoor setting, its focus on living plants, and its more casual gown (often made of hemp) that brings to mind fairies from ages past. Even the ecology bride herself forms a contrast with more conventional weddings. Even on her big day, her fresh face couldn’t be farther from the heavily made-up cover girls of bridal magazines. When it comes to more functional aspects, the green wedding has three main goals: Do no harm, Patronize earth-friendly vendors, and Reuse/recycle. 1) Do No Harm The green bride tries to avoid products or activities that could compromise the environment. For this reason, butterfly releases are rare (vendors aren’t always careful to ship butterflies only to appropriate, native environments). Similarly, she steers clear of beeswax candles, styrofoam or soft plastics at the reception, and subtitutes reuseable glass and porcelain. (Brides are often surprised to discover the caterer may not charge much more for this service.) Many green bridal couples are vegetarian or vegan. In metropolitan or college-town communities, this provides a great excuse to serve dazzling ethnic foods at a reasonable cost. Many environmentalists respect hemp because unlike cotton, it can be grown without pesticides and returns most of its nutrients to the soil. When the green bride buys a new gown for her ceremony, she often looks to fabrics made of hemp. Surprisingly flexible, hemp can go upmarket (”hemp satin”) or relaxed (cottony separates that can be worn after the wedding). 2) Patronize Earth-Friendly Vendors Flower petals in paper cones are environmentally friendlier than bubble solution in plastic containers, and require minimal clean-up. The trick is finding petal suppliers that don’t use pesticides. These growers are more popular in the U.K. than the U.S. Green brides might also distribute harm-free favors, such as sachets made of pesticide-free herbs, live flowers, tree seedlings, or small packets of organic tea. In fact, some brides register at charitable organizations instead of department stores, and contribute to environmentally-active organizations instead of handing out favors. 3) Reuse, Recycle Even the most traditional wedding brings opportunities for reuse/recycling. For example, leftovers from the reception can be delivered to food banks, and flowers dropped off at hospitals or rest homes. The green bride often takes this a step further and chooses recycled paper for invitations and Save-the-Date cards, for example. She might also re-use a wedding gown (her mother’s ideally, or failing that, one from a thrift or vintage store). Otherwise, she might opt for a new gown that isn’t too formal so she can wear it after the ceremony. Separates are perfect — a lovely lace top goes great with her favorite pair of jeans! Just as at the grocery store, eco-friendly doesn’t necessarily mean cheaper. Ecology brides are sometimes surprised to discover their weddings cost 10K, 20K and up, just like those of their more traditional sisters. Still, when she looks back on a wedding that opted for more “nature,” less formality, and less conspicuous consumption, the green bride might find it was time well spent and maybe even hope that a guest or two was inspired to follow in her footsteps. Hot Tub Gazebos - Part 1

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

By Amanda Taylor For relaxation outdoors, hot tub gazebos are becoming a popular addition to homes everywhere. So you know what a hot tub is, and you know what a gazebo is, but you may be wondering what exactly is a hot tub gazebo? A hot tub gazebo is simply a hot tub that is enclosed by a gazebo. Hot tub gazebos come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The shape of the hot tub is commonly the deciding factor for the shape of the gazebo that will enclose it. A round hot tub is generally enclosed by a traditional six-sided or eight-sided gazebo, which gives the structure a round appearance. A simple four-sided design is common for enclosing hot tubs that are square or rectangular in shape. The size of the hot tub often determines the size of the gazebo that will enclose it. The larger the hot tub, the larger the gazebo will be to allow for sufficient room and comfort in the area. Hot tub gazebos also come with a variety of options. Some hot tub gazebos are completely enclosed so that they can be enjoyed at night in cooler climates. Other hot tub gazebo styles for warmer climates are left open like a traditional gazebo construction. Another option for hot tub gazebos is having screen installed if left open. Gazebos can be made of many different materials, but hot tub gazebos are generally made of wood. Constructing a hot tub gazebo requires some planning and a stepwise approach. If you are purchasing the hot tub separate from the gazebo, you should purchase the hot tub first. The hot tub should be set up and functioning completely before construction of the gazebo begins. This will allow you to choose the correct gazebo size and save you a lot of time from having to work around the gazebo to install the hot tub. Be sure to read Part #2 of Hot Tub Gazebos where we show you the benefits of a hot tub gazebo. Overview on Ginkgo Biloba Therapy

Monday, November 19th, 2007

By Jean Helmet Ginkgo biloba is the main ingredient of some of the most effective memory supplements nowadays. However, before proceeding to a ginkgo biloba therapy, people are advised to ask for medical advice. The doctors are able to determine the normal dosage and will inform the patients about the possible side effects that may appear. The ginkgo biloba therapy is suitable to all the people who experience mild to medium memory problems. The effects of the herb become visible in short time. The ginkgo biloba extract includes over 40 benefic substances, but flavonoids and terpenoids are responsible for most of the benefits of this herb. These two types of antioxidants fight the free radicals that otherwise would cause cancer and heart diseases, or would help in the development of such health problems. The bad effects of the free radicals are furthermore increased by the environmental toxins, such as radiation, air pollution or cigarette smoke. Flavonoids and terpenoids improve the immune system by stopping the action of the free radicals. Patients who suffer from bad blood circulation may also want to follow the ginkgo biloba therapy. Some of the substances contained by this herb relax the blood vessels and help them to expand. When the blood does not circulate properly, the brain is affected, too. Furthermore, ginkgo biloba prevents cholesterol from changing into plaque. If the transformation succeeds, plaque is deposited on the arteries and the blood will circulate with difficulty. Eventually, this leads to stroke, which is one of the causes of memory loss. In addition, stroke represents a fatal risk to ones health. Therefore, the ginkgo biloba therapy can also be followed by people who suffer from hypercholesterolemia. People who suffer from certain eye problems can also find relief by following the ginkgo biloba therapy. Diabetes and age-related macular degeneration can affect the retina and thus determine undesirable health problems. For example, age-related macular degeneration, which usually affects older people, can lead to blindness, if left untreated. Ginkgo biloba is one of the best resources people can use for enhancing the pain-free walking distance. Ginkgo biloba helps people to improve most of their mental processes, such as memory, learning and thinking. It also helps a bit to reduce the depression. The ginkgo biloba therapy proves to be effective also when used on people who suffer from Alzheimers disease. However, some side-effects, such as headaches, gastrointestinal discomfort, diarrhea and nausea may be noticed, but only in seldom cases. Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Benefits

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

By Brent Dees When should an older American start collecting Social Security retirement benefits? The question seems easy, but the answer is complicated. Many individuals can begin receiving Social Security retirement benefits as early as age 62, before full retirement age. But the amount of their monthly payment is reduced — the trade off for the longer period over which benefits are paid. Older Americans can also choose to begin collecting full monthly payments at age 65, if they were born before 1938. For everyone else, the full retirement age is higher: if you were born between 1938 and 1959, your full retirement age goes up by percentages of years according to a Social Security age chart; and if you were born in 1960 or later, your full retirement age is 67. Seniors may delay collecting their retirement benefits until age 70, thus qualifying for a delayed retirement credit. The amount of their monthly payments will go up as much as 8 percent for each year beyond the seniors full retirement age. (Unless the covered workers spouse needs benefits to meet living expenses, most experts agree there’s almost never any reason to wait until age 70 to take benefits.) For example: Gladys turned 62 in 2003. Shes eligible, based on her lifetime earnings, for a monthly benefit of $1,444. At her full retirement age of 65, her payment is $1,931 a month. If she delays her benefits until age 70, Gladys gets $2,697 a month (figures are supplied by the Social Security Administration; cost-of-living adjustments are added for 2004 and beyond.) Because each option early, full or delayed — eventually pays out roughly equal total amounts, it may seem the easy choice is to take the money and run. Indeed, six in 10 retirees choose early benefits. (However, depending on when a person is born, the monthly payment will be 20 to 30 percent lower than what would have been received by waiting until full retirement age.) For many seniors, the amount of monthly income they have to live on is crucial. Before deciding when to begin collecting Social Security retirement benefits, seniors should consider: What is my health like? While nobody can outlive Social Security benefits, taking them early may cause regret if an individual lives long enough. The better ones health and the longer ones life expectancy, the wiser it may be not to take benefits early. Do I have other investments? The money already held in retirement accounts can keep growing, tax deferred, for someone who can afford to live instead on Social Security benefits. Am I married? The needs of a retirees spouse may be meaningful if he or she is much younger and likely to collect survivor’s benefits for many years, and if he or she was not in the paid labor force: the working spouses Social Security benefits could represent the lion’s share of his or her retirement income. When an individual receiving retirement benefits dies, the surviving spouse receives the larger of two amounts his or her own benefit, or a percentage of the deceased spouses benefit (but not both). How long will I keep working? Employers often provide health care and other benefits that otherwise cost individuals plenty. For working seniors, collecting Social Security benefits early makes little sense, especially if they have earnings from multiple sources. That’s because, until a working recipient reaches age 65, total Social Security retirement benefits are reduced, based on earnings above a ceiling that is adjusted each year. When to opt for Social Security retirement benefits may be among the more important financial decisions an individual makes. Consulting with a reliable financial planner to learn the consequences of the various choices may be the wisest decision of all. Get Your Husband To Do the Dishes

Friday, November 16th, 2007

By Craig Wilcox Note to Women Only: Dont let your spouse read this article.Note to Men Only: Dont let your spouse read this article. My wife puts a priority on having the kitchen clean in the morning. It’s her fresh palette for mixing and mashing a new masterwork by dinnertime. Unfortunately, her kitchen maid, her husband, doesn’t share the urgency, and instead thinks of the time after dinner until waking as the time to honor his wife’s creations with still and quiet gestation - with just a dash of primetime television after the kids retire. The conundrum: my wife rightly wants her creative workspace clear of clutter, and I want to…well, I really just don’t want to do the dishes until right before dinner the next night (at the earliest). Last night, and many nights prior, however, I found myself compelled the put away all leftovers and clear away the counters before leaving the kitchen. Why? Some sort of reasonable compromise, perhaps? Uh, no. Promises of even more outstanding culinary masterpieces? Ok, now youre giving me too much credit. I like a good meal like the next guy, but my appreciative capabilities top out well before five-star dining. No, this was psychological pressure. While reason couldn’t convert me, it turns out that a small family of mice easily defeated my will to sit and do nothing. To a mouse, our house looks just like cheese. They are instantly attracted. Once in and established, the mice cleverly climb up through the stove, onto the counter, and find every last crumb of leftover delights. I’m not easily dissuaded from eating things. If it drops on the floor, I have a very generous 10-second rule: if I can pick it up within 10 seconds of first seeing it, its edible, regardless of whether it’s been there for a week and I haven’t seen it yet. If food in the fridge smells OK when I have a cold, it will be fine. My kids call me their garbage disposal and are well aware that any uneaten dinner will disappear forever. But sharing my foods with rodents is not OK. Don’t they carry the plaque? Or maybe it’s something worse? So, if Im not 100% convinced my traps have eliminated every last one (sorry PETA), I’m cleaning the kitchen right away. These mice are real, but I started to think they wouldn’t have to be for me succumb to the same pressure. If my wife suddenly screamed in the kitchen while making dinner, jumped onto the couch, and told me she saw a mouse on the counter, I’d be on watch from that moment on. If the mice didn’t appear in the traps, all the better for her, I suppose. The odd success of the Predator movies is probably based on the fact that, to a man, the most dangerous enemy is the one you cant see. Then, vigilance must be at its highest, and you may need Schwarzenegger. So, if you want your husband to clean the kitchen right away, “see” a mouse. And guys, if your wife “sees” a mouse, double check that it wasnt in her imagination. We’ve got our own standards to uphold! How to Run a Successful News Release Program

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

By Claire Cunningham Marketing public relations gives you cost effective ways to reach your audience. The trade-off, however, is time. It takes time to develop and execute public relations programs. It can take time for these programs to yield rewards. Here are six simple steps for developing a news release program that extends your reach and generates inquiries at a fraction of the cost of advertising. 1) DETERMINE YOUR AUDIENCE AND MESSAGE. If you have a marketing or communications plan in place, you already have audiences and messages defined. No need to reinvent for your news release program, although you may need to select audiences and messages that are most appropriate. 2) BUILD A LIST. Once you know your audience, youll need a list of publications theyre likely to read. A great place to go to create a list is http://www.medialistsonline.com a service of Bacons. Its reasonably priced and fast. The downside is the lists come with no updates. You may need to re-purchase your list several times during a year. Or it may make more sense for you to buy a media directory subscription. However you build your list, make it broad. With a news release program you can send releases to many more publications than you can afford to advertise in. Sending a release just entails paper, printing, a photo, an envelope and a stamp. 3) DETERMINE NEWSWORTHY TOPICS. This is a tricky but critical step. Youll need to think like a member of your target audience. Whats going to interest him or her? Usually its new stuff — products, services, applications, literature, software. If you dont have these to write about, your news releases might not get past the editors trash can. 4) INCLUDE A PHOTO. Publications can be hungry for visuals so send one with your release a photo, illustration, chart or graph. In most cases a 3 x 5 glossy B&W print and a color slide will work. Be sure to send good quality visuals since the quality will reflect on you. 5) SET A SCHEDULE AND STICK TO IT. Sending releases regularly lets editors know youre reliable. If you have six topics for the year, send out a release every other month. Twelve topics one a month. General rule for monthly publications is one release per editor per month. 6) MEASURE RESULTS AND LEARN. It takes about three months before your releases will show up in monthly publications. Less time for pubs that come out more often. Track what runs, where it runs, how much space you get and inquiries generated. You can use this information to measure results and improve your program.
